Re: Happy Walspurgisnacht 2024
I'm grateful I was fortunate enough to have a family, even though I procrastinated. I was never one of those girls who spent my time dreaming about marriage or motherhood. I decided to have a child in my mid-30s just so I could say I hadn't missed out on it, sort of like checking a box. And then whe...

Re: Happy Walspurgisnacht 2024
Having kids gives you an excuse to indulge in activities you haven't thought about since you were a kid. My husband re-upped with Boy Scouts when our sons were young, and he had many camp outs with them. Otherwise I think I was the one who threw myself into the kid-friendly activities. I was always ...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?
That sounds delicious! My daughter loves peaches, and it's nearly peach season. I'm going to try this.

Re: Gardening
 Well, if the big cats are as elusive as domestic cats can be, I'd say that's true. We've been feeding a young Tom since his kittenhood four years ago. Recently he's gone AWOL, though I know he's nearby because he's come by once a week or so for the past month. He discovered lady cats, and we a...

Re: Happy Walspurgisnacht 2024
Lol. Headless, I have felt exactly the same way. I felt much older before I had kids than afterward. One of my friends and I had first children at the same time. I was 34, and she was 34 or 35. When our kids were toddlers she remarked that her son made her feel.old because she felt so remote from hi...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?
My mother never made it with nuts because as a child I wouldn't eat them. Two pecan trees in the yard, and I wouldn't touch them. Now, of course. I love nuts. Go figure.

Oh, I didn't think of that, but of course you're right. He prizes his full beard.
My mother made jello with fruit cocktail, but not marshmallows.

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?
Jelly Bellies are far and away the best, although Kroger's Private Selection might just be Jelly Bellies under a house name. This Easter they sold out fast, and I was left with Starburst, which is adequate but not the best. Someone at church this morning brought white cupcakes with coconut icing dye...

Re: Gardening
Skunks we have. I had no idea schools might be so near mountain lion habitat. There used to be some kind of large cat in this part of the country. It got called different things, panthers and such. I don't know if it was the same thing as a western mountain lion or just a cousin. They were mostly ki...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?
I think he'd have done fine if he'd just left off the sour patch candies and the sucker at the end. Chocolate, peanuts, Graham crackers, and vanilla pudding should have worked. Part of what ruined my Easter treats, imo, was the jelly bean eggs. That flavor profile didn't work well with chocolate bro...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?
Well, that's true. I hadn't thought of that. However, I have all these marshmallows I overbought for that Easter treat, and I need to use them up.
Btw, I'm never making those things again. They were cute to look at, but a chore to eat. Just way too sweet. S'mores will be subdued compared to them.
