1 1/2 cups of Sugar
2/3 cups of Apple Cider
2/3 cups of Maple Syrup
1/2 cup of butter
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla
4 cups of warm popcorn

Combine sugar, cider, syrup, butter, and salt in a large pot. Bring to a slow boil over low heat, stirring occasionally. Turn off heat and remove crystalized sugar from sides of pot with a wet pastry brush. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes. Turn to low heat and add vanilla. Turn off heat. Pour mixture over popcorn. Mix well. Butter your hands and roll into balls. Place on waxed paper. Store in an airtight containter.

Ok, I actually tried this recipe for practice and they were soooo good. They get stuck in your teeth, but yummy!

The best trick I ever learned for making popcorn balls was to make them in the sink. I clean it with soft scrub w/bleach and rinse well with boiling water, and it is sooooo much easier than trying to find a bowl big enough and then struggling to mix it all up and keep the bowl steady.

Oh, and keep a stick of butter handy for your hands, so the popcorn balls won't stick to you.

You're kidding! Never heard of popcorn balls? They were common treats for trick-or-treating.

A mixture of corn syrup, sugar, and butter is warmed until it is melted and thin, and poured over a large bowl of popcorn. Stir well. Then, with greased hands, you form the popcorn into balls, and let them cool down. The popcorn balls are wrapped in plastic wrap or waxed paper.

If you want to get fancy, you can add almonds or pecans to the popcorn before making the balls, or drop some vegetable dye in the syrup.

A how-to video.

Commercially made versions.
