I wasn't going to bother going to the cinema to watch Fright Night as I loved the original so much.
However my wife wants to see it so I will end up taking her.

I saw it last Sunday. It was very mediocre IMHO. I would classify it as a nice little 'pop corn' flick but there were no major departures from the original story. I did manage to see it in 3D, but the effects were limited, and the filming was too dark. Compound that with having to wear 3D glasses, and you have a film that is very hard to follow.

Thanks for the advice Pumpkin_Man. I might give it a miss now. I'm going to buy the original this year. Whenever I've watched it, it's always been on the TV.

A bit off topic but not every movie needs to be in 3D.
It's mostly a marketing gimmick.
"Oh cool, let's go see My Dinner With Andre, it's in 3D!"

Totally agree with you about 3-D, Andy. We were upset that we had to see Harry Potter in 3-D (daughter and I had already done that at the midnight showing; it doesn't add much except for the death of Voldemort, IMO). I think they deliberately put the 2-D showing into the smaller theaters, so that they got sold out and you had to pay the higher ticket price. There was no reason that movie had to be in 3-D.

Yes I totally agree with Andy too.
Personally I don't even like 3D. When I go the cinema I watch the normal showing. I have no interest in getting a 3D TV nor watching Blu-ray 3D. I buy standard Blu-ray. I still buy the odd back catalogue DVD.
I think this year i'm going to treat myself to Halloween on Blu-ray. I've got the 2 disc DVD, but I love it so much!

There were some 3D movies that I liked, but I have to join the 'happy throng" and agree. Besides that, I am myopic, so I don't have very good deph perception anyway. 3D does have it's place, but the down side is you have to wear these glasses. That can be a P.A.I when you have to wear perscription glasses like I do. Those 3D glasses also cut out light like sun glasses, so if you don't have a good bright projector, you lose a lot of that 3 d effect. That's what happened last Sunday when I went to see "Fright Night." The movie was filed dark to begin with. On top of that, the projector needed a new lamp, AND I had to wear the 3D glasses, so a lot of scenes in that movie were very hard to follow. They didn't have a regular 2D version available, so I got stuck witht eh 3D. Other then a few ashes flying in my face, there really were no major 3D effects to speak of at all.
I do notice, however, that a lot of movies are comming out in 3D. My grand nice saw "The Smurfs" in 3D and she raves about it. I loved "Final Destination 3" in 3D. there's a case where the 3D worked great.
As for "Fright Night," I did like the original much better, but both the original and remake were as much comedies as they were horror flicks.
