So I went on the Carnival Triumph last December and had a fair-okay time with my best friend. They put her luggage on the wrong ship and we didnt get it back till we docked in St. Thomas with them four days later. She wasnt compensated for this at all and had nothing with her to enjoy her vacation, which in turn meant that I spent a lot of time in our room with her being upset for the first 4 days. It also just set a mood for the last 3 days. I wasnt impressed with the ship, the only other cruise i’ve ever been on being Disney Wonder which was amazing. The service was so-so, and I felt that not enough places were open at once. I’m getting ready to book another cruise with my boyfriend, whom has never cruised before, and I really want his first time to be a good experience. Carnival is SOOOOOOO much cheaper than anything else I’ve found so I guess Im just wondering, are there any Carnival ships that are gonna be better, or the best Carnival ship?? Or should I just cough up the extra money cause Carnival is that far at the bottom of the barrel for cruise ships?
Any info would be appreciated! Thanks bunches!

My kids (they were 9 and 7 or so at the time) went on a Carnival ship in November of 2006 with their mom and they had a good time. My impression from what they said was that it was fun and nice, but that it wasn’t as nice as the Disney Wonder or Magic. They didn’t complain, that is for sure, but my impression was that it was a kind of "you get what you pay for" to a certain extent in that some ships cost more and they are better maintained and have better service.
Of course, the cost was probably 25-30% of what the same trip on the Disney Magic or Disney Wonder cost. I am not sure which ship they went on, but it was the one that sailed from Jacksonville Florida back in late 2006. Carnival just positioned a new (somewhat larger and newer) ship in Jacksonville, but I have not talked to anyone who has been on it as of yet.
I have heard that Norwegian is a good choice too. My cousin was on an Alaska cruise over the summer and they had a great time on NCL.
Having luggage on the wrong ship would be a major problem, I can’t imagine how you’d get along without clothing, toothbrushes etc for more than half of the trip. I am surprised that Carnival didn’t do anything to make it up to your friend either, that is just adding insult to injury.
