Some speculation on the itineraries of the new ships:
1. One will be Pacific based to include trips similar to the ones the Disney Magic is making during the summer of 2008, plus some Alaska etc type destinations. The new ships should be better suited to colder weather climates for this to occur.
2. The second ship may make Mediterranean cruises, or alternatively, either the Magic or Wonder could be put into service in the Mediterranean while the new ship could take over a Caribbean route.
Before the new ships are finished, will The Magic and/or Wonder make any Mediterranean voyages?
If either ship does, it would probably be the Magic. The summer of 2010 would certainly be a possibility.
The summer of 2011 COULD be a possibility. I have only read that the new ships will be launched in 2011 and 2012, but not whether it is the beginning or the end. If it is, say, February of 2011 and 2012 then the 2010 would be the only real option. If it is November 2011 and 2012, then the summer of 2011 is a possibility also.
So, there are 1 or 2 chances for the Magic (or Wonder) to be in the Mediterranean before the new ships are launched. My guess is that the Magic will stay in the Caribbean for the summer of 2010 IF the first new ship is due before summer of 2011. It will also depend on how booked the Magic is during the summer of 2009, so far it seems that the Magic is going to have a busy summer in 2009.
We’ll know for sure what the Magic’s and Wonder’s schedules are later in 2008 or early 2009, of course.
